Grow your own green noodle beans for the kitchen with this pack of 30+ yard long pole bean seeds. Also called asparagus beans or snake beans, these warm-season climbers produce slender pods best picked young for cooking.
Features
- Package: 30+ seeds for planting.
- Warm-season annual climbing vegetable.
- Also known as yard long beans, asparagus beans, and noodle beans.
- Suitable for sunny vegetable beds with a sturdy trellis.
- Seeds only; live plants, harvested beans, and supports are not included.
Sowing Instructions
- Direct sow after the last spring frost when soil has warmed to at least 65°F, preferably around 75–85°F.
- Choose full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. Install supports before sowing to avoid disturbing roots later.
- Sow approximately 1 inch deep and 4–6 inches apart along the support. Space rows approximately 2–3 feet apart.
- Water gently and keep soil evenly moist, not soggy. Germination commonly takes 7–14 days in warm conditions.
- Thin crowded seedlings as needed for airflow. Avoid disturbing the roots of remaining plants.
Support & Care
- Provide a securely anchored trellis or poles approximately 6–8 feet tall.
- Guide young vines onto the support; stems will twine as they grow.
- Give plants 6–8 hours of direct sun daily and a long, warm growing season.
- Water consistently at soil level, especially during flowering and pod development. Avoid standing water.
- Keep weeds clear while plants establish. Add a light mulch away from stems to conserve moisture.
- Use compost or fertilizer sparingly according to soil needs. Excess nitrogen can favor leaves over pods.
- Inspect regularly for aphids and chewing insects. Use only controls labeled for edible crops and follow harvest intervals.
- Protect plants from frost.
Harvest & Kitchen Use
- Pick pods while slender and tender, before seeds swell prominently. Do not wait for maximum length.
- Check plants frequently during production and harvest regularly to encourage continued pod development.
- Snip pods carefully without damaging nearby flowers or young pods.
- Wash harvested beans and cook thoroughly before eating. Use in stir-fries, braises, and other cooked dishes.
- Refrigerate promptly after harvest. Planting seeds are not intended for direct consumption.
