Start a homegrown berry project with this pack of 300 red strawberry seeds. Raise seedlings for sunny garden beds, raised beds, or containers with drainage, and enjoy caring for your plants from their earliest leaves.

Features

  • Package: 300 seeds for planting.
  • Perennial fruit plants for sunny growing spaces.
  • Suitable for garden beds and containers with adequate drainage.
  • Seed-grown strawberries develop slowly. Fruiting time depends on variety and growing conditions, and a substantial harvest may not occur until a later season.
  • Seeds only; live plants, harvested fruit, pots, and accessories are not included.

Cold Stratification & Sowing

  1. Begin indoors about 10–12 weeks before the last expected spring frost, allowing additional time for chilling.
  2. Cold stratification can help break dormancy. Place seeds in a labeled, sealed container with barely moist seed-starting medium and refrigerate at approximately 35–40°F for 3–4 weeks. Do not freeze.
  3. Scatter seeds over the surface of clean, pre-moistened seed-starting mix and press gently into contact. Do not bury; light helps germination.
  4. Keep around 65–75°F in bright light. Mist gently or water from below so the tiny seeds stay in place.
  5. Maintain even moisture without waterlogging. If using a clear cover, ventilate regularly and remove it after emergence.
  6. Germination often takes 2–6 weeks and can be uneven. Continue caring for the tray patiently.
  7. Move seedlings into individual pots once they have several true leaves, handling them gently.
  8. Gradually acclimate seedlings outdoors for 7–10 days, then plant out after frost danger has passed. Space plants approximately 12–18 inches apart, keeping crowns at soil level.

Care

  • Choose at least 6–8 hours of direct sun daily and fertile, well-drained soil.
  • Keep soil consistently moist, especially during flowering and fruit development, but avoid standing water and wet crowns.
  • Water at soil level. Use clean straw mulch around plants to help keep developing fruit off bare soil without covering the crowns.
  • Feed established plants with a balanced fertilizer labeled for strawberries according to its directions. Avoid excessive nitrogen.
  • Remove unwanted runners where they crowd plants. Maintain airflow and remove damaged leaves and spoiled fruit.
  • Allow pollinators access to flowers. Protect ripening fruit from birds with securely installed garden netting if needed.
  • Provide winter protection suited to your local climate; container roots are more exposed to cold than roots in the ground.

Harvest

Pick berries when fully red and ripe, clipping or gently pinching the stem above the fruit. Harvest frequently, handle gently, refrigerate promptly, and rinse just before eating.
