Begin a long-term garden project with this pack of 100+ red climbing rose seeds. Raise young plants in pots, then train developing canes onto a sturdy trellis, arbor, or fence in a sunny garden.

Features

  • Package: 100+ rose seeds for planting.
  • Perennial ornamental roses for supported garden growing.
  • Climbing roses need tying and training; they do not attach themselves to supports.
  • Growing roses from seed takes patience. Flowering and mature growth may take more than one growing season.
  • Seeds only; live plants, cut flowers, and supports are not included.

Cold Stratification & Sowing

  1. Soak seeds in clean water for 12–24 hours.
  2. Place in barely moist seed-starting medium inside a labeled, sealed bag or container. Keep the medium damp, not dripping wet.
  3. Refrigerate at approximately 35–40°F for 8–12 weeks. Do not freeze. Check weekly for moisture, mold, and emerging roots.
  4. Plant sprouted seeds promptly. After chilling, sow remaining seeds about 1/4 inch deep in clean, well-draining seed-starting mix.
  5. Keep around 65–75°F in bright light. Maintain even moisture without waterlogging.
  6. Germination can be irregular and take weeks to several months. Some seeds may require an additional seasonal warm-and-cold cycle.
  7. Move seedlings into individual pots once they have several true leaves. Gradually acclimate them outdoors after frost danger has passed.

Support & Training

  • Install a sturdy, securely anchored trellis, arbor, or fence support before plants become large.
  • Guide flexible main canes outward in a fan or near-horizontal direction as growth allows, using loose, soft ties.
  • Leave space between canes and walls for airflow. Check ties regularly so they do not constrict thickening stems.
  • Preserve healthy main canes while young plants establish. Remove dead or damaged growth with clean tools.

Care

  • Choose at least 6 hours of direct sun daily and fertile, well-drained soil.
  • Water at the soil level when the surface starts to dry. Avoid standing water and prolonged wet foliage.
  • Mulch around established plants, keeping mulch a few inches away from stems.
  • Once established and actively growing, use a rose fertilizer according to its label. Avoid overfeeding seedlings.
  • Maintain good airflow, inspect for aphids and leaf diseases, and remove fallen diseased leaves.
  • Wear gloves when handling thorny canes.
  • Protect young plants from hard freezes. Winter protection needs depend on local climate and plant hardiness.
