Planting Instructions
Cold stratify: Place seeds in a lightly damp paper towel inside a sealed bag. Refrigerate at 35–40°F (2–4°C) for 8–12 weeks. Do not freeze.
Check weekly: Keep the towel moist, not soaked. Plant any seeds that begin sprouting.
Sow: Plant about ½ inch (1 cm) deep in pots with drainage holes and well-draining potting mix.
Care: Place in a bright location and keep the soil evenly moist without waterlogging.
Transplant: Gradually introduce established seedlings to outdoor conditions before planting in a sunny spot with room for a mature tree.
Good to Know
Apple trees grown from seed do not grow true to the parent variety. Trees can take several years to bear fruit, so this is a long-term gardening project rather than a quick harvest.
