Start a rewarding, slow-paced gardening project with this pack of 30 purple rose seeds. Raise seedlings in pots before moving established young plants into a sunny garden bed.
Features
- Package: 30 rose seeds for planting.
- Perennial flowering plants for ornamental gardening.
- Suitable for starting in trays or individual pots with drainage.
- Growing roses from seed takes patience; flowering may take more than one growing season.
- Seeds only; live plants, cut flowers, pots, and accessories are not included.
Cold Stratification & Sowing
- Soak seeds in clean water for 12–24 hours before preparing them for cold stratification.
- Place seeds in a small amount of barely moist seed-starting medium in a labeled, sealed bag or container. The medium should feel damp, not dripping wet.
- Refrigerate at approximately 35–40°F for 8–12 weeks. Do not freeze. Check weekly for moisture, mold, and emerging roots.
- Plant any sprouted seeds promptly. After chilling, sow remaining seeds about 1/4 inch deep in clean, well-draining seed-starting mix.
- Keep around 65–75°F in bright light, with the mix evenly moist but never waterlogged.
- Germination can be irregular and may take weeks to several months. Some seeds may need an additional seasonal warm-and-cold cycle.
- When seedlings have several true leaves, move them carefully into individual pots. Gradually acclimate them outdoors after frost danger has passed.
Care
- Choose a location with at least 6 hours of direct sun and good air circulation.
- Use fertile, well-drained soil. Allow room around each plant as it develops.
- Water at the soil level when the surface begins to dry. Avoid standing water and prolonged wet foliage.
- Once seedlings are established and actively growing, apply a rose fertilizer according to the label. Avoid overfeeding young plants.
- Mulch around established plants, keeping mulch a few inches away from stems.
- Remove dead or damaged growth with clean tools. Wear gloves when handling thorny stems.
- Monitor for aphids and leaf diseases, and remove fallen diseased leaves.
- Protect young plants from hard freezes. Winter protection needs depend on your climate and the plants' hardiness.
- Stake young stems only if needed; no climbing habit is specified for this seed listing.
