Grow fresh common chives at home with this pack of 100 seeds. Snip the mild onion-flavored leaves to finish salads, soups, eggs, and baked potatoes.
Introduction
Common chives are a perennial herb with slender, hollow green leaves and purple pom-pom flowers. Grow them in pots, raised beds, or a sunny herb garden, and enjoy harvesting small handfuls for everyday cooking.
Features
- Package: 100 common chives seeds.
- Botanical name: Allium schoenoprasum.
- Plant type: Perennial culinary herb.
- Mild onion-flavored leaves and decorative purple flowers.
- Suitable for containers, raised beds, and herb gardens.
- Seeds only; live plants, pots, and accessories are not included.
Planting Instructions
- Sow seeds about ¼ inch (6 mm) deep in well-draining seed-starting mix or prepared garden soil.
- Keep the soil evenly moist, not waterlogged. Aim for a germination temperature around 60–70°F (16–21°C).
- Seeds typically sprout in 1–3 weeks. Provide bright light once seedlings emerge.
- Gradually acclimate indoor-grown seedlings to outdoor conditions before transplanting. Space established clumps about 6–8 inches (15–20 cm) apart.
- Choose a sunny spot or light partial shade, and water when the soil begins to dry.
- Once plants are well established, harvest with scissors, leaving about 2 inches (5 cm) of growth above the soil. Avoid cutting the whole plant back while it is still young.
