Start a cheerful seasonal planting with this pack of 200 mixed marigold seeds. Grow these warm-season flowers in sunny borders, garden beds, or patio containers with drainage.
Features
- Package: 200 seeds for planting.
- Plant group: Tagetes species, commonly known as marigolds.
- Random mixed colors.
- Commonly grown as annual flowers.
- Suitable for sunny outdoor beds and containers.
- Seeds only; live plants, pots, and accessories are not included.
Sowing Instructions
- Start indoors 4–6 weeks before the last expected spring frost, or direct sow outdoors after frost danger has passed and soil has warmed.
- Sow approximately 1/4 inch deep in clean seed-starting mix or finely prepared, well-drained soil.
- Keep around 70–75°F and evenly moist, not waterlogged. Germination commonly takes 5–14 days.
- Provide bright light as soon as seedlings emerge. Remove any humidity cover after emergence and allow gentle airflow.
- Move seedlings into individual pots once they have several true leaves.
- Gradually acclimate indoor-grown plants outdoors for 7–10 days before transplanting after frost danger has passed.
- Space plants approximately 10–18 inches apart, allowing extra room for larger-growing plants.
Care
- Choose full sun with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily.
- Use moderately fertile, well-drained soil. Containers must have drainage holes.
- Water regularly during establishment, then water when the soil surface begins to dry. Avoid standing water and prolonged wet foliage.
- Feed lightly with a balanced flower fertilizer according to its label if needed. Too much nitrogen can encourage foliage instead of flowers.
- Remove faded flowers regularly to encourage continued flowering and keep plants tidy.
- Marigolds are upright or bushy plants, not climbing vines. Use a small stake only if taller stems need support in a windy location.
- Check young plants for slugs and snails, and inspect foliage for mites during hot, dry weather.
- Protect from frost. Clear spent plants at the end of the growing season.
