Start a flowering climber project with this pack of 20 mixed clematis seeds. Enjoy raising seedlings and guiding their young growth onto a garden trellis.
Introduction
Clematis adds climbing greenery and distinctive flowers to garden supports. Growing from seed is a long-term project for gardeners who enjoy nurturing plants from the beginning.
Features
- Package: 20 clematis seeds.
- Random mixed colors.
- Plant type: Perennial flowering climber.
- Support options: Trellis, garden netting, or thin wires on a fence.
- Seeds only; live plants, flowers, pots, and supports are not included.
Sowing Instructions
- Fill pots with a clean, well-draining seed-starting mix and moisten before sowing.
- Sow seeds individually and cover with a thin layer of mix or fine grit.
- Keep the mix moist, not waterlogged. Place pots in a sheltered outdoor cold frame to experience natural seasonal temperature changes, protected from heavy rain and pests.
- Be patient: clematis germination can take several months, and some seeds need more than one seasonal cycle. Do not discard pots after only a few weeks.
- Once seedlings have several true leaves and established roots, move them carefully into individual pots.
- Gradually acclimate young plants to their final position before transplanting.
Trellis Support & Care
- Provide a sturdy trellis with thin rods, wires, or netting that leaf stalks can grip.
- Guide young stems toward the support and secure loosely with soft ties where needed.
- Choose a sunny or partly shaded spot with well-draining soil. Shade the root area with mulch, keeping mulch away from stems.
- Water regularly while plants establish. Keep roots moist without leaving them in standing water.
- Remove dead or damaged growth. Identify the plant's flowering and pruning group before heavy pruning.
Good to Know
Seed-grown clematis may differ from parent plants in flower color, form, and growth habit. Flowering takes time; this is not a ready-to-bloom plant.
