Start a sunny-season garden project with this pack of 100 Strawberry Pink sunflower seeds. Sow directly in a prepared garden bed and nurture upright plants for borders and homegrown cut flowers.

Features

  • Package: 100 sunflower seeds for planting.
  • Warm-season annual flowers.
  • Suitable for sunny garden beds and cutting gardens.
  • Upright growth; stake stems when needed in exposed locations.
  • Seeds only; live plants, cut flowers, pots, and accessories are not included.

Sowing Instructions

  1. Direct sow after the last spring frost when soil has warmed to at least 60°F.
  2. Choose a site with 6–8 hours of direct sunlight and well-drained soil. Loosen the soil and mix in finished compost.
  3. Sow seeds approximately 1 inch deep and water gently.
  4. Keep the seedbed evenly moist, not waterlogged. Germination commonly takes 7–14 days in warm conditions.
  5. Thin seedlings to approximately 12–18 inches apart to give stems and roots room to develop.
  6. Protect emerging seedlings from birds, slugs, and other pests. Avoid disturbing the developing roots.
  7. For successive plantings, sow small batches every 2–3 weeks while enough warm growing weather remains.

Care

  • Water at the soil level, deeply enough to moisten the root zone. Increase watering during hot, dry weather without leaving soil soggy.
  • Keep weeds clear while plants establish. Add a light mulch, keeping it away from stems.
  • Use a balanced flower fertilizer according to its label if soil fertility is low. Avoid excessive nitrogen.
  • In windy locations, install a sturdy stake early and secure the stem loosely with soft ties. Sunflowers do not climb and do not need a trellis.
  • Check regularly for chewing insects and damaged foliage. Maintain good air circulation around plants.
  • For cut flowers, harvest in the cool morning as petals begin to open. Use clean tools and place stems promptly in clean water.
  • Protect young plants from frost.
