Add towering summer interest to your garden with this pack of 40 Skyscraper sunflower seeds. Watch young seedlings develop into striking plants for the back of a sunny border.

Features

  • Package: 40 Skyscraper sunflower seeds.
  • Plant type: Tall-growing annual sunflower.
  • Height potential: 15–20 feet in favorable growing conditions; mature height depends on soil, climate, spacing, and care.
  • Best suited to outdoor garden beds with generous growing space.
  • Seeds only; live plants, flowers, and supports are not included.

Sowing Instructions

  1. Direct-sow outdoors after the last frost when soil has warmed to at least 50°F (10°C).
  2. Choose a full-sun location with 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily and shelter from strong winds.
  3. Loosen the soil deeply and incorporate compost. Sow seeds approximately 1 inch (2.5 cm) deep.
  4. Water gently and keep the soil evenly moist until seedlings establish. Germination commonly takes 7–14 days, depending on conditions.
  5. Thin seedlings to approximately 24–36 inches (60–90 cm) apart to provide room for roots and tall growth.
  6. Protect newly sown seeds and tender seedlings from birds, slugs, and snails.

Staking & Support

Sunflowers grow upright and do not climb a trellis. Install strong, firmly anchored stakes or a sturdy support framework early, before roots become extensive. Secure the main stems loosely at several heights with soft garden ties, adding support as plants grow. Check ties regularly and leave room for stems to thicken. Position very tall plants away from paths, overhead lines, and places where falling stems could cause injury.

Care

  • Water deeply at soil level during dry weather, especially while stems and flower heads develop. Avoid waterlogged soil.
  • Keep competing weeds clear and mulch lightly, leaving space around the stem.
  • Maintain fertile soil and apply fertilizer according to the product label if needed; avoid excessive nitrogen.
  • Inspect supports after wind and heavy rain. Do not climb plants or supports to reach flower heads.
  • Remove finished annual plants at the end of the growing season.
