Enjoy a fragrant evening-garden favorite with this pack of 100 mixed four o'clock flower seeds. These bushy plants produce trumpet-shaped blooms that typically open in late afternoon and evening.
Features
- Package: 100 seeds for planting.
- Botanical name: Mirabilis jalapa.
- Random mixed colors.
- Tender perennial in warm climates; commonly grown as an annual in colder regions.
- Suitable for sunny borders and roomy containers with drainage.
- Seeds only; live plants, pots, and accessories are not included.
Sowing Instructions
- Soak seeds in lukewarm water for 12–24 hours before sowing.
- Direct sow after the last spring frost when soil is warm, or start indoors 4–6 weeks before the last expected frost.
- Sow approximately 1/2 inch deep in well-draining soil or clean seed-starting mix.
- Keep around 70–75°F and maintain even moisture without waterlogging. Germination commonly takes 7–21 days.
- For indoor starts, provide bright light after emergence and use individual pots to reduce root disturbance.
- Gradually acclimate seedlings outdoors for 7–10 days, then transplant after frost danger has passed.
- Space plants approximately 12–24 inches apart to allow for bushy growth and airflow.
Care
- Choose full sun; light afternoon shade can help in very hot climates.
- Use moderately fertile, well-drained soil. Water regularly during establishment and during extended dry weather.
- Let the soil surface dry slightly between waterings. Avoid standing water.
- Feed lightly with a balanced flower fertilizer according to its label if needed. Avoid excess nitrogen.
- Plants are bushy rather than climbing. Use a small stake only if stems need support in an exposed location.
- Remove developing seed heads to limit self-seeding.
- In cold climates, grow as an annual or lift established tuberous roots after foliage dies back and before the ground freezes. Store frost-free in a cool, dry place and replant after spring frost danger has passed.
Safety
For ornamental growing only. Seeds and other plant parts are harmful if swallowed. Keep away from children and pets, and wash hands after handling.
