Bring cottage-garden charm to sunny beds with this pack of 100 cornflower seeds, also known as bachelor's buttons. Enjoy raising these annual flowers for garden borders and simple home bouquets.
Features
- Package: 100 cornflower seeds.
- Botanical name: Centaurea cyanus.
- Plant type: Hardy annual.
- Suitable for sunny borders and cutting gardens.
- Seeds only; live plants, flowers, pots, and accessories are not included.
Sowing Instructions
- Direct-sow outdoors in early spring as soon as the soil can be worked. In mild-winter areas, autumn sowing is also an option.
- Choose full sun and well-draining soil. Clear weeds and rake the surface to a fine texture.
- Sow approximately ¼ inch deep and water gently.
- Keep the seedbed evenly moist until seedlings establish. Germination commonly takes 7–14 days in suitable conditions.
- Thin seedlings to approximately 8–12 inches apart for airflow and sturdy growth.
- Avoid disturbing established seedlings, as cornflowers are best grown where they are sown.
Care
- Water young plants regularly. Once established, water during dry periods without leaving the soil soggy.
- Avoid heavy feeding; overly rich soil can produce soft, floppy stems.
- Remove faded blooms regularly to encourage continued flowering and reduce unwanted self-seeding.
- Cut flowers with clean snips as blooms open for fresh arrangements.
- Use light plant supports in windy positions if stems begin to lean.
- Keep weeds clear and remove finished annual plants at the end of the season.
Seed Disclaimer
Germination is affected by temperature, environment, and planting techniques. We sell seeds only and do not guarantee 100% germination.
