Take on a long-season growing project with this pack of 50 Carolina Reaper chili pepper seeds. Start indoors with steady warmth, then grow in a sunny vegetable bed or a large container for an exceptionally hot pepper harvest.
Features
- Package: 50 seeds for planting.
- Carolina Reaper, a superhot chili pepper.
- Botanical species: Capsicum chinense.
- Best suited to a long, warm growing season.
- Seeds only; live plants, harvested peppers, pots, and accessories are not included.
Sowing Instructions
- Start indoors approximately 10–12 weeks before your last expected spring frost.
- Sow about 1/4 inch deep in clean, well-draining seed-starting mix. Moisten gently.
- Maintain soil around 80–90°F using a seedling heat mat with a thermostat if needed. Avoid overheating.
- Keep the mix evenly moist, not soggy. Superhot peppers germinate irregularly, commonly taking 2–6 weeks or longer.
- After emergence, provide strong light and good airflow. Remove humidity covers gradually.
- Pot up seedlings once they have several true leaves, handling roots gently.
- Harden off gradually for 7–10 days. Transplant after frost danger has passed and nights remain above approximately 55°F.
- Space plants about 18–24 inches apart in fertile, well-drained soil, or plant individually in roomy containers with drainage.
Care & Harvest
- Provide 6–8 hours of direct sun daily. Protect from cold and strong winds.
- Water consistently at the soil level. Avoid repeated wilting and standing water.
- Apply a balanced vegetable fertilizer according to its label. Avoid excessive nitrogen.
- Stake or cage plants if branches need support as fruit develops. Peppers are not climbing vines.
- Check regularly for aphids, mites, and other pests. Use only controls labeled for edible crops and follow harvest intervals.
- Allow a long warm season for fruit to mature. Harvest fully ripened peppers with clean scissors, leaving a short stem attached.
Superhot Pepper Handling
- Wear protective gloves when handling seeds, harvesting fruit, or preparing peppers. Avoid touching your face or eyes.
- Keep seeds and peppers away from children and pets. These seeds are for planting, not direct consumption.
- Capsaicin can cause intense irritation. Use eye protection when cutting peppers and avoid inhaling dust or cooking fumes.
- Use harvested peppers sparingly. Do not eat whole peppers as a challenge.
- Wash hands, tools, and work surfaces thoroughly after handling.
